Is she really only 1 month away from turning 3?! She’s a sassy, independent, and very talkative little girl now who insists that she’s not a baby anymore. When someone asks her “how old are you?” She promptly replies with “almost 3”.
Here are highlights from this past month:
- I feel like I’m saying this every month but Janie’s language has really blossomed this month. Here are some things that she started saying: “not you!”; “almost 3”; “I’ll be mad!”; “this is wonderful”; “it’s so comfortable”; “GG is so stinky”; “that’s so gross”; “how did that happen?”; “really? are you sure?”; “I’m awake!”; “did you have fun at work?”
- Hawaii with Family: Janie was anticipating this trip for at least a month and when we got there, she was so happy. Warming up to the ocean took almost no time and she was obsessed with playing in the sand. She called our hotel room the “Hawaii house” and our rental car the “Hawaii car”. It’s been over a week since we left and she still talks about it with such detail.
- Relationships: Janie understands how some people are related to others. She knows that Yai is Mommy’s Mama, Ta is Mommy’s Dada, Ankong is Daddy’s Dada, and Ama is Daddy’s Mama. She also knows that Uncle Jason is Daddy’s brother and Uncle Johnny is Mommy’s brother.
- Clothes: Janie is starting to have an opinion on what she wears. She prefers her blue skirt over everything else and her favorite pair of shoes are the “small ones”, which are the black mary janes with the birds on them.
- Baby Brother: Janie is really starting to talk about her baby brother and gives kisses to Mommy’s tummy. She will also point to her full tummy (after a big meal) and say “this is Baby Brother”.
- Favorites for the month: bell peppers, celery, pretzels, vanilla ice cream, and her new Batman thermos. She still loves Finding Nemo and Chip and Dale and got to watch all she wanted on the plane rides to and from Hawaii. She can name almost every character in the movie and gets so excited when we go to the pet store or aquarium.
- New favorite books: “Mix It Up”, “Dragons Love Tacos”, and “Los Pollitos”. Still a big favorite: “Finding Nemo Seek and Find”.
- Dentist: Janie went to see the dentist this past month and has started flossing more regularly. I think she actually enjoys it.
- Behavior: Janie can be either really good or really bad. Most of the time, she follows directions and rules well. She is well-behaved in restaurants and doctor’s appointments too. Then at other times, she will selectively ignore Mommy’s directions or just straight up say “NO! I don’t want to ___.” We’ve had to start counting to 5 to get her going and she usually waits until about 4 to start moving. I gotta say that she’s like two different girls sometimes and she makes me smile and then so frustrated all within a matter of seconds.
- Trying new things: She has conquered some of her fears this month. One of them was going through a tunnel at the aquarium. She is also touching the starfish and sea urchins at the touch pool there. She also learned that walking down to the 1.5-foot pool at the Sheraton Waikiki is more fun than scary. She also rediscovered pineapple, which she once thought hurt her tongue (after she had eaten a whole container in one sitting). She will now eat them freely and say “pineapples don’t hurt my tongue anymore”.
Happy 35 months, KK! We love you!!
