The fire alarm in our building went off in the middle of dinner today. These go off every so often but it’s usually a false alarm in the middle of the night. We quickly evacuated down the stairs and the fire trucks had already beaten us to the curb! We noticed that there were many more trucks and firefighters present this time. At one point, they hooked up one of the hoses to the wall and a ladder went up on another truck. In the past, they’ve all been false alarms and after the 4th or 5th one, we consider staying in bed. Turned out there was an actual fire this time. Someone had an oven fire on the 7th floor of our side of the building and luckily it was contained to the oven. The fire crew went through and checked everything before we were let back into the building.
Glad it wasn’t serious but it’s always a reminder that we should have a bag ready to go if something more serious were to occur. All we had was a diaper bag, our phones and wallets, keys, jackets, and a lightweight stroller for Peanut. It’s really all we can carry down 8 flights of stairs.
