During his 12-month pediatrician appointment, he failed part of his vision screening. So, they referred us to UCSF for a real eye exam. The optometrist was really patient and managed to get the exam done in a relatively short amount of time.
Peanut had his eyes dilated and she says that he is, in fact, near-sighted already. His prescription is -1.50 in both eyes and has an astigmatism of +1.75 in both eyes. She also checked his optic nerve and that checked out just fine. She gave us a prescription for our records but didn’t recommend glasses just yet. He does, however, have a follow-up in 6 months and she predicts he may need glasses by the time he’s 2 years old.
We are not surprised considering everyone on both sides of the family wears glasses. On top of that, Dada had glasses since he was 4 years old. Doctor suspects it may have been earlier if it was checked at a younger age.
