HFM

Dadas stayed home with Peanut today and he was in good spirits.

Unfortunately, by the evening, his rashes had turned into blisters. We suspected he had caught Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease but it was looking a lot worse than the description. The blisters had spread up to his thighs and diaper area too. This is a photo of his knee. Poor baby.

After consulting one of Mama’s doctor friends, we decided to take him to the ED at Children’s Hospital Oakland (Mama’s old workplace).

He was in a great mood and did a good job opening his mouth and allowing the doctor to examine him. He also allowed them to poke some of the blisters for the lab tests they needed.

He was so good and so charming to everyone that he scored an Otter Pop while we waited for our discharge papers. Turns out he had eczema coxackium, which is a more severe version of HFM.

After 3 hours in the ED, it was way past his bed time and he fell asleep in the car on the ride home. We got home a little before midnight.
