Happy Traveler

We’re on our way down to Southern CA right now and although we’ve been on the road for about 8 hours, Janie is still a happy traveler.

She’s had some awake periods with lots of smiles. She’s also sleeping and eating like a machine while we’re driving. This is her cooling off while Daddy is getting gas for the car.

Janie is 8 weeks old today!  We think she’s about 13 lbs now but we’ll see next week at her 2-month check-up.  This week she’s had more of a social smile and has been licking and sucking her hand.

Where’s Janie?

She was a little cranky this morning.  When I finally got her to fall asleep, it was in this position.  People have been telling me that she looks huge in all her photos but then looks so much smaller in real life.  Hopefully this photo will give you some perspective.  We have a Queen-sized bed.

Progress

Janie’s been doing Tummy Time since her first week of life. We used to prop her up on a pillow so she didn’t have to work as hard to pick her head up and now she doesn’t need it anymore. However, today, I wanted to see how much she’s progressed so I put her back on the same pillow and saw a big difference! I think she was even pleased with herself at how easy it was.

She even showed me how advanced she was by turning her head to look around.  What a show-off.

Slumber Party

We now have a nightly routine.  I feed her at 9:00 pm, go to bed around 10:00 pm, and Jes stays up to feed her at 12:00 am.  Sometimes she’s practically eating in her sleep at midnight.  With this plan, I get about 6 hours of sleep before she wakes up again at 4:00 am.  That’s when I pick her up and feed/change her in the livingroom and she sleeps in the bassinet on the chair while I sleep on the couch for the rest of the morning.  That way she can fuss as much as she needs while Jes gets enough sleep for work in the morning.  It’s been going well so far and last night was about the same.  However, a certain little baby woke up again at 6:30 and didn’t want to go back to sleep.  So, I plopped her next to me on the couch and hung out with her until we both fell asleep.  When Jes got up to get ready for work, he found us sleeping together like this.

We didn’t wake up until 9:00 am for her next feeding.  Afterward, she was in such a good mood that she was perfectly happy just sitting under the blanket with me on the couch.
