Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay was closed for a year during the pandemic and finally reopened recently. We were excited to see the fish return and to see if the coral had time to repair. The process for getting an entry was not easy though. Mama got up early and drove to the entrance to pick up a reservation.

When it was our time, we were allowed to enter, watched the short video, and headed down to the beach.

The fish were at knee level so Peanut could enjoy them from the shore. Meanwhile, Janie and Dada went out to explore.

We all had fun exploring and just hanging out in the beautiful fish sanctuary.

At lunch, there was a large bird hanging out in the restaurant. How funny.

For dinner, we went to our favorite katsu place and Peanut had a yummy kid’s bento meal.

North Shore

We drove to North Shore today and visited the turtles. They were surfing in the waves and didn’t feel like napping today.

The shrimp truck was also closed today so we stopped at McDonald’s for a fried apple pie. Janie is big fan!

And you can’t forget the shave ice!

Sunset Sailing

One of the things we tried to do last time was a sunset cruise but they were all booked up! We finally got a spot and it was so fun!

Dada dove off the side of the sailboat and then Janie followed from the stairs.

The ladies at the bottom were cheering her on. She was so nervous but wanted to go out there so badly.

Dada also lived his dream of floating in the middle of the ocean with his baby girl.

On our way back, they hoisted the sail and turned off the motor so we could enjoy the sunset.

The kids were so tired afterward that they skipped dinner and went straight to bed.

Morning in Kailua

Auntie Yoon picked us up from the airport last night and we slept over at her house. The kids loved playing with Trevor and had McDonald’s for breakfast.

We also went to the Farmer’s Market nearby and picked up lunch.

Later in the day, we went to the park/school yard behind their house to play on the playground and fly a kite.

What a nice way to relax on our first day in Hawaii. Thank you to Auntie Yoon and Uncle Kurt for hosting us!

Indoor Dining

This is the month of first-time-in-a-long-time experiences. This evening, we had dinner INSIDE of a restaurant! It was nice to enjoy some sushi at a table and indoors again. We were also treated with a pretty sunset from our table.
