4-month visit

Janie went to the doctor today for a belated 4-month visit.  The doctor was on vacation around the time Janie turned 4 months so we waited until now to see her.

At 4 months and 22 days old, here are the stats:

Weight: 18 lbs, 3 oz (98th percentile)
Length: 25.75 inches (83rd percentile)
Head Circumference: 41.5 cm

Looks like she’s above average in both weight and height and the doctor says she looks great.

Janie also got another set of immunizations and this time she took the oral meds well but then somehow knew what was coming up next.

As soon as the nurse started swabbing her legs with the alcohol wipes, she had a big ol’ frown on her face and was crying way before the poking started.  Poor baby.  Luckily her recovery was quick and so far she hasn’t been fussy or feverish.

Two-Month Check-up

This morning we took Janie to the doctor for her 2-month check-up.  She was a happy camper for most of the appointment and the doctor was, again, impressed with her progress.  We were also told that she was ready to stretch her feeds to about 6 ounces every 4 hours and we should shoot for 6-8 hours of sleep through the night.  Sheesh…wouldn’t that be great?!

Here are the stats:

Weight: 13 lbs, 8 oz. (95th percentile)
Length: 23 inches (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 38.25 cm

Janie also got some vaccinations today.  The first was an oral vaccination.  She did ok with that one and didn’t spit up or anything afterward.  What a trooper.

Next were the injections.  Here’s the first one in the right thigh.  Look at how happy she still was during that one.  She made a little squeal but it wasn’t too bad.

Here’s the injection in the left thigh.  This one made her really cry.  Poor baby.  It even bled a little.  I didn’t realize it until I removed the Band-Aid later this evening and found it soaked in blood.  Overall, I was pretty impressed at how quickly she recovered from both shots.  Once we picked her up, dressed her, and gave her the pacifier, she was all good and passed out in the car.  Doctor said to pick up some Infant Tylenol and to watch out for a fever.  So far she’s had no fever but was a little fussier than usual.  Good job, Baby Girl!

One-Month Check-up

This afternoon we took Janie to see the doctor for her one-month check-up.  The doctor was very impressed with her growth.  Just look at those cheeks and that belly!

Here are the stats:

Weight: 11 pounds!! (7 lbs. 10 oz. at birth)
Length: 21.5 inches (20 inches at birth)
Head Circumference: 36.5 cm (33.5 at birth)

At the end of the appointment she got a Heb B injection in her left thigh.  She started out so happy and calm even with the needle in her leg (as you can see in the photo) and actually didn’t start crying until the nurse pushed the solution into her leg.  Then it was all tears, screaming, and a beet-red face!  Even Jes was taken aback by the injection and picked her up right away. Poor baby!

First Doctor’s Visit

This afternoon, we took Janie to her first pediatrician appointment.  The first thing they did was weigh her and measure her length.  We had to take all her clothes off including her diaper and she ended up peeing all over the exam table. Oops.

Dr. Kaplan is a really cool doc and she was impressed with Janie’s weight gain in such a short amount of time.  Turns out they gave us the wrong weight at birth.  She actually weighed 7 lbs, 10 oz. instead of 7 lbs, 1 oz. at birth.  The nurse missed a zero that day and gave us the wrong reading.  At discharge, Janie weighed 7 lbs, 1 oz., which was a loss of 7%.  The docs weren’t worried and just recommended that I continue feeding her as I had been in the hospital.  At the doctor’s office, which was 24 hours after discharge, she had gained back 4 whole ounces!!! Woohoo!  That meant my milk had come in and that she was eating well.  So she is now at 7 lbs. 5 oz. and we have another weight check on Friday.  Hopefully she’ll be back to birth weight and well on her way to becoming a chunky monkey.
