Hawaii: Day 6

This morning we got up early and took an Uber to Diamond Head State Monument.

We met up with the Tsaos and were determined to get all the kids up the mountain.

Peanut had a slow start at first but he managed to get up the mountain all on his own.

The girls were up ahead and did great!

The kids took the 100 steps up to the top and went through the dark tunnel too.

We had to take a photo oat the top of the mountain! It was about 20 years ago that Mama and Dada first hiked up this crater together.

On the way down, Dada gave Peanut a little ride on the steeper parts.

At the bottom, we got some cold pineapple juice and Dole Whip.

Janie brought her camera along and took these photos of Mama and Peanut.

After our trolley ride back to Waikiki and some lunch at Duke’s, we headed back to the pool for some more swimming.

Then we went back upstairs to shower but made a point to hang out on the lanai to enjoy the sunset.

Dinner was pretty late but we had some good food at Highway Inn.

Peanut slept right through it and Janie stayed up long enough to eat and then fell asleep on the ride home. They had a lot of activity today and it was no surprise they were so tired by the end of the day.

Hawaii: Day 3

This morning it was raining but that didn’t stop us from having fun!

After we went to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast, we headed out to the aquarium!

We took the bus through Waikiki and Peanut drew his version of a bus.

At the aquarium, each kid had a camera or phone and took they all took lots of photos. These fishie photos are Peanut’s. Not bad, kid.

Janie and Sophie also brought their homework and they were excited to work next to each other. It’s just funny that they were doing this at the aquarium!

Avia and Peanut worked on their own projects at the same table.

We love this little aquarium and we remembered to take the annual photo in front of the sign.

For lunch, we walked to our favorite tonkatsu place. We were smart enough to make a reservation on our way over because it was packed!

Then we walked to Island Vintage Shave Ice for a special treat.

Our crazy Peanut made a tunnel in his mountain of shave ice and was so amused by himself.

Back at the hotel, the kids really wanted to go to the beach now that the rain had stopped and it was super sunny outside.

Yai and Ta also joined us out there!

Later in the evening, we ended up at the Ali’i Pool (this place has so many pools!) and Uncle Jamie brought back Happy Meals for the kids and plate lunches from Rainbow Drive-in. YAAAAY!

Then it was time to grab a spot on the beach for the fireworks. We carved out a giant area for us, brought sand toys, and the kids didn’t mind waiting for the show to begin.

Shortly after 7:30, the fireworks started and they were right above us! We usually watch them from our balcony at the Sheraton so this was a special treat!

Beach Buddies

Today we got up early and drove toward Half Moon Bay to Gray Whale Cove Beach. We met up with Sophie and Avia for another day at the beach.

The water was pretty cold but the kids played all day. It was so fun to see the girls playing together like they do in Hawaii.

This is becoming a fun annual day trip with our beach buddies. Can’t wait to do this again but in Hawaii this December! Yaaaay!

Reunion

Auntie Stephanie traveled back to California with her family this weekend! The kids got to hang out with Sophie, Avia, Vivian, Henry, and Hudson just like old times! We also met Vivian’s little brother Ethan for the first time.

They played “Just Dance” on our Nintendo Switch with the dads while Mommy got caught up with her old friends from Children’s Hospital.

Pumpkin Farm

This morning, we went to Joan’s Pumpkin Patch and Farm.

We also met up with Sophie, Avia, Sabrina, and Cecily.

There was so much to do at this farm!

Janie did a little panning for gems, which looked more like colorful aquarium rocks.

Peanut could not wait to ride the train.

There was a petting and feeding area with lots of hungry goats.

We also stopped for lunch at Fiery Shanghai and the Tsaos joined us before heading home. The girls sat together and tried spicy noodles too.

They also had a Snowflake that had rolled ice cream.

Half Moon Bay

We spent the day at Half Moon Bay State Beach with Sophie and Avia. The weather was warm enough to be outside all day but not too hot as well. When we arrived, Peanut was asleep in the car and he finished his nap in the stroller.

The kids found these weird creatures that washed up on the beach. They spent much of the day collecting them in buckets.

Janie and Sophie did a lot of the hunting while Avia did lots of stirring in the buckets.

They also played with this giant piece of kelp that washed up too.

Peanut loved playing in the sand.

What a fun way to spend Mother’s Day!

Beach Day!!

We spent the day in Half Moon Bay today and met up with the Tsaos at Gray Whale Beach Cove. There was a bit of a walk down to the beach but it was worth it.

The beach was quiet and the weather was surprisingly warm without any wind.

They just love making muddy sand together.

IMG_2681

IMG_2678
The kids played just like they did in Hawaii together. This reminds me how nice it is to be living in California. By the end of the day, Janie was down to her swim suit and living it up!

IMG_2618
Janie and Sophie have grown up together and still enjoy the same things.

IMG_2622
I love this photo of them burying their feet in the sand. I could hear them say “we’re so smart, the water won’t get us now.”

These kids had such a fun time outside at our local beach.

Peanut even got a comfy nap inside our pop-up tent!

IMG_2684
The walk back up the cliff wasn’t as bad as we expected. Peanut actually managed to walk up at least half of the steps back up.

HNL > OAK

img_9350

We’ve been dreading this day but now it’s time to fly back to the Bay Area. Peanut sat on one of the lobby chairs waiting for Dada to bring the car around and it reminded me of a photo we took of Janie when she was 2.

IMG_3558

img_9358

Before returning the rental car, we had to stop at Auntie Yoon and Uncle Kurt’s office to drop off the gear we borrowed from them. We are so happy they will be in town for Christmas this year!

img_9365

Once we arrived at the airport and got through security, the kids were free to explore until it was time to board the plane.

img_9363

Highlights: Janie sat with Sophie for a couple episodes of Paw Patrol and Peanut took two naps.

Luckily the flight home was only 4.5 hours and both kids did unusually well.

img_9269

We all hopped on a party trolley complete with Christmas lights and festive music blasting.

Peanut stood with Dada for most of the ride and danced to the music.

I think he had the best time.

img_9272

We arrived Downtown right at the same time as the Tsaos! They had just walked over from their car and we waved to each other as the trolley drove by.
