Week 6

img_6946

It’s the 6th week of soccer and Janie was ready to go today.

img_6952

She did a much better job staying with the group and did lots of running and kicking.

img_6955

Little Guy came along to watch this morning.

img_6948

Of course, Peanut also came along too and did some doodling to pass the time.

Here’s video clip of Janie dribbling the ball across the field today.

img_6962

On the way home, we stopped at the playground and the kids actually played together this time around.

img_6963

It’s nice that Peanut is far more mobile and stable so that he can enjoy some of the riding toys.

Soccer Progress

img_6128

Janie had her third week of soccer and she’s finally following along with the group. Here she is in the warm-up circle doing one of the drills.

https://youtu.be/aoKtbHycJds

She’s on the far right next to the tall coach.

https://youtu.be/SPHMxbxdDeU

Here’s another one of the techniques she learned.

img_6135

They later lined up and took turns running the cones and making a goal. She did well on the first try and then had a big spill on the second.

https://youtu.be/zuweIhqKXoc
You can see her looking a little confused but she finished.

img_6140

They later had another scrimmage and she got the ball and scored a goal today! Pretty cool!

img_6146

We were very proud of how well she participated today and got a tasty snack for the walk home.

img_6148

We hope this is just the start of a full soccer season!

First Day of Soccer!!

img_5798

This morning, we all got up early to take Janie to her first soccer session. She rode her scooter to the field.

img_5804

When we checked in, she received her Cubs shirt and Mama wrote her name on the back. She also got her shorts and long socks but we didn’t put them on today.

dsc_7849

Peanut stayed busy and had a fun time crawling and cruising around the perimeter of the field.

dsc_7852

dsc_7859

Here’s the warm-up circle. In her usual fashion, she stood and watched while the others followed along with the exercises. *sigh*

dsc_7863

Then they played a game of Shark where they were fish kicking their ball around the cones and then getting their balls in the circle when the coach called out “SHARK ATTACK!” dsc_7866

She did it a couple times but as the game progressed, she was often found wandering around on her own with her ball.  You can see her on the far left all by herself. *sigh* (again)

dsc_7867

They had quite a few water breaks and she really built up a thirst each time.

dsc_7872

The next drill was weaving through cones and then kicking the ball to the goal. This was probably her favorite part.

https://youtu.be/auEzlgTpsrE

She did rather well for her first time!!

dsc_7875

They were then split up into teams and wore different colored vests for a little scrimmage.

dsc_7877

She played along for the first half and then needed a bit more coaxing to continue playing.

dsc_7883

They finished the session with a game of parachute and then all received a sticker.

dsc_7885

She had a fun time today and put in a good effort. Each 4-year-old had their own issues throughout the session and she fell right in the middle of all of them. One kid was really good and there were others who just sat through the whole session or would fall apart and cry.

dsc_7886

I’d say it was a pretty successful first day of soccer and we are official “Soccer Dad” and “Soccer Mom” today.

I’m sure Peanut can’t wait to play too someday.

new shoes

IMG_3740

This evening, we met up on The Embarcardero after school.

IMG_3752

Janie wore her new Nike Free shoes and it made her feel like a superhero.

IMG_3753

She did lots of running and also did a big leap from one concrete block to another. It made Mama a little nervous but she was more than capable.

https://youtu.be/Ajo8eR3ZkrM

She had some pretty good hang time and landed perfectly.

IMG_3751

She was also very happy to notice that her shoes were just like Mama’s.

early dinner

IMG_3211

We had a 5:30 reservation at a new restaurant by our house. We headed out early so we could hang out at The Yard beforehand. Janie lounged on one of the inflatable couches with her snack while Peanut cruised and explored.

IMG_3213

IMG_3219

At the restaurant, Peanut had peas for the first time.

https://youtu.be/vneRb-HSCGA

IMG_3225

Janie had lots of crab and really liked the tiny fish eggs that they put on the ceviche. This was our dessert – bread pudding and ice cream!

IMG_3226

We all played a game of tag/chase on the way home. It was a good way to burn off a delicious dinner.

dim sum and treat

IMG_8986

We got a very late start today and had dim sum closer to 2pm this afternoon. Peanut loved Mama’s jook and snacked on puffs too.

IMG_8990

Janie ate well enough to earn her favorite dessert at Yank Sing – orange jello!!

IMG_8995

She thinks it’s funny how they make the jello inside an actual orange peel.

IMG_9010

We later went to the Ferry Plaza and the kids were so cute in their individual strollers.

IMG_9012

Perhaps we should have switched them. Janie has a bad habit of dragging her toes on the floor when we push her.

IMG_9015

She also had fun running laps around the Ferry Building. Too bad she kept losing her slipper every 5 steps.

California Time

IMG_4111

The kids were up super early today as expected for their first morning in Hawaii.  Luckily the stores open at 6am so Janie and Mama did a little shopping.  Janie picked out a cooler bag for herself and browsed all the trinkets in the store.  She particularly liked this sparkly turtle.  No, we didn’t buy it.

IMG_4115

We then went to the Infinity Pool for breakfast and to watch the sunrise.  Peanut was not amused by the lounge chair this morning.

IMG_4123

We went to breakfast around 7 and scored a table at Eggs n Things with virtually no wait.  Janie tried out the new light-up pen she picked out at the store.

IMG_4126

We also ordered her very own kid’s breakfast.  All she wanted was the sausage.

IMG_4127

One of the nice things about being up early is that the sidewalks of Waikiki are empty.  Janie ran back to the hotel without having to dodge the crowds.

Let’s buy a tree!!

IMG_3709

Janie has been very excited about buying our Christmas tree.  Dada picked her up from school early and met up with Mama and Peanut at the tree lot.

IMG_3710

IMG_3712

We had just enough light out to pick a good one and our only criteria was that it was going to be no taller than Janie.

IMG_3716

Janie ran around trying to find the perfect tree asking, “how about this one?!”

IMG_3714

These 3-foot trees are so cute!

IMG_3717

Here’s a Peanut-sized tree.

IMG_3719

IMG_3720

We picked out tree and waited patiently for the tree guy to wrap it up for us.

IMG_3724

The best part of buying a 3-foot tree is that it’s small and light enough to just carry home.

Wedding Banquet

IMG_1555

We all went to the wedding banquet this evening and Janie grubbed on jellyfish, pork, lobster, and shrimp.

IMG_1566

IMG_1577

Ankong went all the way down to the supermarket to buy Janie some milk in the middle of dinner.  So nice!!

IMG_1591

IMG_1589

Janie joined the girls during the bouquet toss and also danced around with Amelia.

IMG_1609

IMG_1610

Then it quickly turned into a game of chase.

https://youtu.be/JuiaU0xfLi8
Janie also did some twirling and dancing with Dada.

IMG_1618

IMG_1626

Peanut had trouble sleeping through all the loud music so he just hung out with GAuntie Cheryl.
