Janie had Open House at school this evening. She was so excited to show me everything she had been working on and made. This is her desk.
There was a big packet of stuff to look through on her desk and all around the room.
We also got a cute photo of her with Ms. Kuoch. Her teacher said “It’s so nice to have Kaylee in my class. If I have a little girl, I want her to her just like her.” A-ha! She really IS teacher’s pet. I can see Daddy rolling his eyes while hearing this.
Janie is officially a kindergartener!! Her first day at Amelia Earhart School was today and it was went well!
Mama and Dada took the day off and we walked along the lagoon to get to school.
Here she is in front of the Amelia Earhart statue.
We arrived at the playground and she hung up her backpack.
There were only a few minutes to play on the playground and there were SO MANY people there in one place. At 8:20am, her teacher came out to greet everyone and they all went inside Room 14.
Parents were invited to spend the first hour in class so we got to see all 24 kids sitting on the rug together for their instructions. Their names were called one at a time to go find their desks.
Janie’s seat was right next to her pal Gavin! There were 4 projects to complete: a name tag with beads, a racoon mask, rainbow name, and two coloring pages.
She completed all the activities pretty much on her own and loved using the new school supplies that she got in the pencil box on her desk. The PTA supplied new crayons, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, pencil, and the pencil box.
What a great first day in Ms. Kuoch’s class! She also spent the afternoon in AIK (Alameda Island Kids) afterschool program. Luckily Gavin is also going there so the transition was super easy.
She came home with her projects including a lesson on the solar eclipse that occurred today. She also got special glasses to view the eclipse outside.
Our Little Janie graduated preschool today!! It took place at the Gap Corporate Office and all their graduation caps were lined up in order for the ceremony.
Here is Janie’s cap complete with a rainbow, footsteps, and a flower.
She entered the room with her class and was so proud of herself.
She was also excited to see Mama made it across the bay to see her.
The class recited a few poems and sang some songs for their parents. It was very cute.
Here is their Acorn Song. She sings this one in the bathtub a lot.
Then Miss Tiffany (one of Janie’s favorite teachers) called each of them up to get their certificate. Janie opted for a hug instead.
Our Baby Girl is heading to Kindergarten!! Look out world!
At the reception afterward, we got to catch up with Miss Sharla, her teacher from last year’s Alligator Class.
She also got a photo with Miss Elizabeth, the director of the Whale Class. She was often at school early in the morning to greet Janie when she arrived. Sometimes Janie was the first one to arrive at school and got to follow Elizabeth around as she unlocked doors and prepped the classroom.
This is Tiffany, one of Janie’s favorite teachers. She gave Janie the nickname “Cricket”.
After the reception, we headed down Embarcadero for dinner.
It was the perfect day for some graduation photos!!
Peanut’s teachers send updates on what Peanut’s doing in school such as naps, diapers, and even photos! Here’s a picture of Peanut learning his body parts.
This afternoon, Mama and Dada had a meeting with the Kindergarten specialist at the school. Afterward, Janie got picked up early. She was so happy to see us at the same time. This is Tiffany, one of her favorite teachers at school.
We also found some funny things on the walls today. This is a description of herself. It says:
My name is Kaylee. I have 20 shiny teeth behind my red lips. My hair is black. It’s soft and very long. I have black round eyes. I can blink my eyelashes so fast. My head is a circle around everything.
They are also learning about feelings this month. They had to pick one, draw a picture, and tell a story about the feeling. She drew a sad cat (those are whiskers on the mouth). She said:
One time my dad was leaving. I felt sad because I through he was going to leave me at home.
We have no idea what she’s talking about but that would certainly make a little kid sad.
Janie was just telling us that Miss Alina was one of her favorite teachers. This morning, Dada noticed that Janie was part of the framed photo of her by the entrance of the classroom. How special!
Today was Janie’s last day as an Alligator! To celebrate, Mama and Dada went to her school in the afternoon to help her say goodbye.
She was excited to see the whole family and we got to see her play with her friends one last time. In this photo, she’s seated between Vidit (on her right) and Sota (on her left). Sota will be starting the Whale class next week with her and Vidit will be joining her next month or so.
Peanut came along for the celebration and the other kids couldn’t help say “hello”. The teachers made a rule that they could only touch his feet. 🙂
We passed out chocolate cookies and Teacher Denise read them all a story before we said our goodbyes.
Teacher Denise was really sad to see her go and they got one big hug goodbye.
Teacher Sharla also got her goodbye hug and then it was time to go.
This was her last year when we had her first trial day. She’s had a wonderful year in at this school, made new friends, learned a ton, and the teachers were so loving.
And now look at this big girl! She’s ready to move on to Pre-K next week as a Whale!! Yay!
