This evening, Janie made foam meatballs. Her favorite part is cutting it with her knife.
Zephyr Cove
Daddy figured out how to stay another day so Janie got to have another day at the beach. This time it was a beach that was closer to the condo, had really nice sand, and had very gentle waves. We also had LOTS of space to roam because it rained part of the day. There was no need for warming up to the water today. She was ready to go before we could even put our stuff down. She went straight to the water and waved, “HI OCEAN!!”
We dug a hole and scooped lots of water today. We also found a rock to play with all day. Our tent (in the background) was so close to the shore that it was easy to get to the water any time we wanted.
She went everywhere with that bucket and shovel.
Janie practiced making sand castles all day. She called them “happy birthday cakes”.
Here was her first birthday cake that came out the right way. She was so proud and then destroyed it immediately after I took this picture.
For a snack, Auntie Sylvia bought nachos and Janie LOVED the chips, cheese, and olives.
Then it was back outside for more fun.
This kid had such a great time. I wish I could store that happiness in my pocket.
Under the shade, she played with her bucket of water.
Each time she ran out of water, she would start walking down to the shore on her own. Mommy would have to chase after her every time.
We had a couple of thunderstorms but that didn’t stop these two beach bums. They continued to play in the sand as all the adults were huddled under the tent. By 3 pm, we were the only ones left on the beach.
Eventually it started to rain so hard they had to come in to dry off and have a snack. What a fun day! It makes using up another 8 hours of PTO so worth it.
Drive to Tahoe
We’re on our way to Tahoe today! Yippee! This girl did a pretty good job keeping herself entertained.
We stopped at the Vacaville outlet to do a little shopping and Janie had a little lunch.
Here she is in a luggage store helping out the store clerk with her inventory.
Before heading to the resort, we went to the grocery store to pick up food for the weekend.
They had a “family-friendly check-out aisle” where she got a strip of stickers.
Chicken Rice
One of Janie’s favorite meals is Khao Mun Gai (Thai Chicken Rice).
cooking
This evening, Janie did a little cooking in her mini kitchen.
Saturday morning
We all slept over at Auntie and Uncle’s house on Friday night and Janie did not have a good night’s sleep. She cried every hour because of her stuffy nose and insisted on sleeping on the while sofa. So, that’s where she slept and Mommy slept on the brown sofa.
This is what she looked like in the morning.
She also had such a fit when Mommy tried to give her a bath and woke up the rest of the family. As we were all getting ready to go out, Janie helped Auntie Jia re-pot her plant out on the balcony.
At brunch, Janie enjoyed showing off her sunglasses.
Monday afternoon
Mommy came home a little early this afternoon so Janie had a little extra time to play at home this evening. It started with some drawing by the window.
Then she had tea and snacks with her friends.
extra mommy time
Janie got some extra time with Mommy this afternoon when she came home early.
She got to play in the rice bin and did a really good job keeping most of it in the bucket today.
After our trip to Safeway, we went over to the water to play and enjoy the nice weather.
She brought her coloring pages and markers for some outdoor coloring.
Back at home, she spilled water all over her shirt so she sat shirtless for a while and played with foam dough.
Here she is showing off a little meatball and a big meatball. She loves having two of everything.
Then it was time for dinner. She enjoyed the leftover brisket and corn from yesterday’s potluck at Mommy’s work.
cutting fruit
She’s getting better at this.
fun at the academy
Janie went to the CA Academy of Sciences again today and had a blast. She seemed more interested in the fish today and stuck around for more than just a couple seconds to admire the fish.
She also got an up-close view of a rattlesnake. The glass was so clear it felt like you could just reach out and touch it.
In the rainforest, Janie got to see some butterflies really up-close. She also tried to copy a little girl climbing on the fence.
We spent some time underwater in the flooded rainforest tube.
She sat quietly next to Daddy with her bag of snacks.
She also enjoyed her water next to the baby giraffe.
When she saw the (stuffed) lions, she roared back at them.
She also got to ride this uh…bear?
For lunch, we walked to Pacific Catch and Janie played with sunglasses while we waited for a table.
During lunch, Janie tried to use chopsticks and was also proudly saying “TWO!” as she showed us how many of them she had.
